Puerto Madryn

J'allais retourner à Ushuaia et continuer à faire de la rando avant de prendre le bateau pour l'Antarctiquemais mes jambes un peu lasses de tant de rando (23 jours de marche sur 27 possible...) m'ont dit stop. Joshua avec qui j'avais randonné au Chili était allé à Puerto Madryn et m'avait dit qu'il avait plongé avec des lions de mer (genre d'otaries) et vu la plus grande colonie de manchots sur le continent là-bas.



Donc je décide à l'arrache de changer mon billet de bus (ils sont très flexible pour ca ici!) et me tape 18h de bus 'semi-cama' (les sièges s'abaissent en position presque horizontale,suffisemment confortable pour dormir). Ces bus sont vraiment très confortable: air conditionné, service de repas/boisson (j'aivais mon propre stock en plus pour compenser, vu mon appétit), TV. On nous a diffuser 5 films (de daube essentiellement) en espagnol ou anglais sous-titré espagnol. Donc en gros le trajet se fait bien. 18h de trajet, 1700km et que des steppes à admirer depuis la fenetre! Et ca remonte encore 700km plus au nord ce paysage!

Puerto Madryn est une ville assez touristique et pas particulièrement jolie, mais c'est pas pour ca que je suis là: direction le bureau de plongée! Je suis motivé au taquet pour faire ma première plongée avec bouteille suivi d'une séance de tuba avec les lions de mer.

Manque de bol: j'arrive pas à décompresser mes oreilles lors de la plongée et ca fait mal! Après trois tentatives infructueuses je dois laisser tomber... Je suis un peu dégouté parce que j'étais chaud patate pour passer le premier niveau de plongée cette semaine-là. Va falloir passer chez le docteur au retour pour arranger ca!

Le tuba avec les lions de mer, ca par contre c'est un truc de ouf! Une heure dans l'eau (froide...) à jouer avec eux, on pouvait les toucher, les attrapper par les pattes, trop fun! Pas timides les bestioles et ca a carrément pas l'air de les déranger qu'on vienne se baigner avec elles dans leur habitat natuel! Elles sont toutes à l'etat sauvage ici! Bref que du bonheur, ca rattrappe de loin l'echec de la plongée! J'ai malheureusement pas de photos à vous montrer puisqu'on m'a juste refilé le DVD de la session avec un film trop lourd a télécharger sur le blog.

I was about to head back to Ushuaia for more hikes before i join the boat to sail to Antarctica, but my feet felt tired (been hiking for 23 days out of 27!). Joshua who i had hiked with on the Paine circuit had told me he went diving with sea lions in Puerto Madryn and had also seen there the biggest penguins colony of the continent.



So I decide last minute to change my bus ticket to Ushuaia for one to Puerto Madryn (they are pretty flexible with this here!). The bus is a semi-cama: i.e. the seats can be lowered close to the horizontal for a fairly good night sleep. They got service (but i got my own food too since nothing can satisfy my hunger ;-) they also have TV and showed us 5 DVDs on the way, some crappy Hollywood movies in spanish or english with spanish subtitle. Pretty comfortable ride in the end. 18h and 1700km of steppes later i arrive in Puerto Madryn.



The town is fairly touristy but not worth a visit for itself. But that's OK since i'm not there for this. I head right away to the diving office and sign up for my first scuba dive and also a snorkeling session with sea lions. The scuba dive didn't go well because i could not decompress my ears... tried 3 times, nothing... it was hurting at 2m depth already! Gotta see a doctor for this when i'm home again! That was a big bummer because i was so ready to get the first certification level done that week!



Then follows the snorkeling with the sea lions! That was one hell of an experience! They are in their natural environment, not tamed or anything but come and play with you fairly easily! I could touch them, grab them by the feet, play with them, awsome! It was so great that i forgot how cold the water felt! So that was a great highlight that made up for the failed scuba diving experience! I don't have any pictures of the sea lions experience to show you unfortunatelly, just a DVD with the movie of the session, too big to upload...
