Vernadsky! Ex base scientifique britanique Faraday revendue en 93 si je me souviens bien aux Ukrainiens pour un penny symbolique!

Ils détiennent le bar le plus austral au monde où est servie la vodka faite maison sur place! Pas mal d'ailleur, elle fait moins mal au crane que la Smirnov qu'on a gouté une fois leurs stocks épuisés...

Le premier batiment que les Ukrainiens ont constuit était un sauna!!! Bien joué, ils ont tout compris ces gens-là! :-) Comme on est restés bloqués dans leur 'port' huit jours à attendre une fenetre météo décente pour repasser le Drake et rentrer, on a eu droit à deux séances de sauna avec bain dans l'Antarctique! Trop fort!

Super sympa et très accueillant les Ukrainiens! On a eu quelques séances d'une version un peu particulière de billard et des jeux de fléchettes dans leur bar.

Puis est venue l'heure du grand départ et des petits vomis. Ca m'avais pas manqué ca tiens! Meme histoire qu'à l'aller: quarts, vomis pendant 24h, 3 jours pour passer le Drake. On a eu des gros vents à un moment (50 noeuds) mais pas des gros creux, heureusement.

Ce coup-ci on passe le Horn de jour, que c'est beau! Dauphins et oiseaux nous accompagnent jusqu'à Ushuaia. Retour à la civilisation difficile: c'est bruyant quand meme, et ca grouille de partout! Des souvenirs pleins la tete et deux jours de bus de transition pour atteindre Bariloche et se remettre à gambader :-)

Vernadsky! It's a former british scientific base (formerly Faraday Base) sold to the Ukrainiens for s symbolic pound in '93 if i remember well.

They now own the southernmost bar in the world where they serve home made vodka, made in Vernadsky! Pretty tasty i must say, and it gives less headache than the Smirnov we got to taste once their stock was empty...

The first building the Ukrainiens built when they got the station was a sauna! Good men! Since we stayed in their 'harbor' for 8 days waiting for the weather to get better in the Drake to allow us to sail home, we got to try it twice! With the dip in the Antractic of course! Tastes salty... ;-)

Faraday Pub!

The Ukrainians are very friendly and we spent quite a few evenings in their bar playing a weird version of pool and also darts.

The came the time to sail back and puke a bit again... didn't miss that latter while down there! Same story as on the way there: we were on the watch, puking for the first 24h. Crossed the Drake in 3 days! Had rougher weather though with half a day of 50 knots winds (fortunately the waves were not too rough there!).

This time we pass the Horn by day! What a beauty! And of course dolphins and birds came along to Ushuaia. Being back in civilization was overwhelming i found: very noisy, looks stressful with people and cars all over. Had my head full of memories and two days of bus transition heading north to Bariloche to digest this all before getting some serious exercise again ;-)
